Thanks to the exposure that the poll gave him, he signed a record deal with Ministry Of Sound the following year, and released his first top ten single, “Traktor”, in January 2011. While the album didn't chart on its release, it was hugely acclaimed critically, as were Wretch's follow up mixtapes, and by 2010, he'd built up enough of a following to be listed on the BBC's Sound Of 2011 poll. He debuted in 2006, releasing his debut effort “Learn From My Mixtape” the same year, and by 2008 he'd scored a record deal with the indie label Hip-Hop Village. A skinny child, his mother gave him the nickname “wretch” when he was growing up, and when he turned his hand to rapping as a young teenager, he took the term as his stage name, putting his lucky number, 32, as its other half. ![]() Born Jermaine Sinclair in Tottenham, London, England, Wretch 32 grew up around hip-hop music of all shapes and sizes, falling in with locals crews The Combination Chain Gang and The Movement at an early age.
